Happy 5th Birthday, Adam!

Adam turned 5 this week!  He had a very eventful week.  He started off by getting a black eye two days before his birthday!  He was jumping on my neighbor's sofa and fell and hit his eye on a table behind the sofa.  By the next morning, it was completely swollen shut and black and blue.  Poor thing, and right before his birthday!  He had a party at school in his classroom, and we had a big party on Saturday at a mini-golf place near our house.  The kids ate pizza, cake and played golf....it was a great party!

He was very excited about taking cupcakes to school on his birthday

Happy 4th Birthday, Adam!!

Today was Adam's 4th birthday!  At least it was here, in Sakhalin.  His birthday is actually just beginning in Texas, and just ending here.  Crazy time zones!  Anyway, I think he had a pretty good day.  He went to school and I took cupcakes (or as Adam likes to call them, muffin cakes) for the class.  They sang "Happy Birthday" to him in English and in Russian.  I thought that was pretty neat that the kids know it in Russian.  After school we took a sled ride around the neighborhood (see previous post).  Daddy came home early from work (Yay!) and we had cake and he opened his presents.  We gave him a kid's digital camera, and I think that is his favorite present.  He took around 70 pictures so far, and to my surprise, they aren't bad.  I will post a few of his shots when I get them all downloaded.  We also gave him a Winnie the Pooh book and a Thomas the Train puzzle - 2 of his favorite characters.  Overall, it was a pretty good day. He was happy, and that's all that matters to me!

Happy Birthday, Shane!!

Wednesday was Shane's 33rd birthday! Adam picked out a Mickey Mouse card to give to Daddy, and even signed his name! Of course he wanted to sign it in yellow crayon so it's kind of hard to see. Anyone who knows Adam knows that we have to have cake for a birthday, so Shane decided he wanted an ice cream cake from Baskin Robbins. The only one they had was bright yellow with roses on top, but hey - in Doha you can't be too picky!

Adam sang "Happy Birthday" and then helped Daddy blow out his candle - which, if you notice, is a "3". I couldn't find any regular candles and they didn't have any more 3's, so that's what we used! I guess we should have just lit it twice!

The Big 33!

Today is my 33rd birthday - and no, Joseph, that is not OLD! Anyway, when we told Adam it was Mommy's birthday, he immediately said - "YEA, we'll have a birthday cake!!" I hadn't planned on one, but decided after he mentioned it a third time that I better find one. I decided to make one - nothing special - just white cake with chocolate icing and sprinkles. However, I forgot to buy a candle, so we found a small one I had used during Christmas and put it in front of the cake. That seemed to satisfy Adam. He sang "Happy Birthday" and blew out the candle for me. I have to say, it was great fun watching him get excited about the whole thing. Also, as a bonus, he gave me what I really wanted from him for my birthday - a day without accidents!

Adam's Birthday Party

Friday was Adam's 3rd birthday party. We held it at one of the clubhouses in our compound. We borrowed a small bouncy house from my friend Samantha - which the kids all loved. We played a few games - pass the parcel, pin the mask on Spidey, and the pinata, of course. We invited about 11 kids, and 9 were able to make it. They all had a good time and we managed to get through it all without too many tears! We had another Spiderman cake made at Megamart, which turned out pretty good - but not as good as our cake that we made last weekend! It was a great party - but I for one am glad it's over! Happy 3rd Birthday, Adam!

Today is Adam's 3rd birthday. We had a small celebration at the house with cake and a few presents. We had the Spiderman cake that we made the night before. Adam loved it! He sang "Happy Birthday" to himself all through dinner. We told him all day that today was his birthday, and that he was now 3 years old. I think by dinner time he got it. We gave him a floor piano that you walk on to play. Adam loves it, but Buster is scared of it (of course!). His actual Birthday Party with his friends is this Friday, so he will get to celebrate twice!

Spiderman cake

Tomorrow is Adam's 3rd birthday! As part of the celebration, Shane and I decided to try and make a Spiderman cake ourselves. I baked the cake today during his nap and set it on the counter to cool. Well, I forgot to close the kitchen door and my two dogs did what they do best - they ate it! When we got back from the party I had to make another cake. It all turned out great - Nini and Shane did the light blue, I did the black outlining and the dark blue stars, and Shane did the red stars. We are pretty proud of our work, and will be sad to cut into it tomorrow!
